EMS400

So this is it. This is the power supply I've been waiting for. I mean, I've been using Eikon's EMS's since the beginning. Because they're the ones that introduced the concept of technical readings to the trade; and that was an interesting tool for tuning and building tattoo machines.

But beyond that, I've been testing the guts of those units since the previous generation and I have to say that it's been truly steady and reliable hardware since the EMS 300. The components proved to be unwavering even in the most demanding situations (especially when I traveled abroad for conventions and guest spots). I had an even flow when co-workers were burning their travel units or getting crappy current while tattooing... I've had plenty of occasions to appreciate the difference good hardware makes. And this is no chinese-made copycat!

So I've been sold on the EMS's performance for a bit, but I have to admit I was kinda dreaming of a more compact unit. Not just for travels, but also for my work station at the shop. Something simple and functional with a small footprint. And the 400 generation is definitely it! The engineering that went into this design made for improvements on all levels, it's one tight little power unit.

It's clever and easier to use than it seemed at first. Because it might look a bit 'tech' but it's totally utilitarian by the end. Honestly, it just looks as good as it runs. And I'll guess that it's probably the best money you'll spend on tattoo hardware this year.

I'm very pleased with my EMS400. It's a great departure from the previous, and sometimes cumbersome, Eikon EMS. The upright design is a great space-saver and is extremely easy to clean after each appointment. The new and bright touch-screen and the features that it hosts are great, be it one at a time or all together. The best new feature, by far, is having the ability to time your appointments through one of two settings. All in all, a great step forward for the Eikon EMS.

The EMS 400 is an amazing power supply! The current is smooth! The design is flawless and the extras are worth their weight in gold! Let's start with the size and design. If you are familiar with the EMS 300, the first thing you'll notice on the EMS 400 is the total redesign of the power supply case. The screen is a bit smaller than the EMS 300 (as is the whole power unit) but everything you need is easy to read on the display or access via the menu with Eikon's orange text/ numbers on a black background.

The EMS 400 fits nicely onto my workstation and is easy to cover! The clip cord and foot switch along with power cord all plug into the back of the unit. This is really nice!! No more cords poking out onto my work surface. Easier to keep covered/clean and out of the way. (I would like to see the addition of a low profile or 90 degree 1/4 in. jack on Eikon's amazing clip cords & footswitches as it would be very stealthy with the new design of the Eikon power supply.)

It fits easily into my backpack next to my laptop and is perfect for travel as it will switch from 110v to 220v automatically... and the transformer is built in so you don't have a bulky cord!! There's a footing to keep the unit in place and it works amazingly well!! Even when the whole power unit (footing included) is wrapped in plastic wrap, the unit is secure and doesn't move about on my work station.

The EMS 400 has push buttons instead of a turnable potentiometer which I find very useful!! Easy to cover and makes operation a breeze. There are 4 presets available which makes switching back and forth between machines fast & easy!! The unit is made of plastic which not only keeps the weight down, but has been standing up to my rigorous cleaning using Madacide FD as well as Cavacide with no issues!!

The newest addition as far as the bells and whistles go would be the addition of a timer that works off your footswitch or can be maintained manually...I LOVE IT!! The ease and accuracy assures you'll know exactly how long the tattoo actually took. There is a reading for amps now as well... again very handy for fine tuning!! Overall, after using this power supply for a few months, I would grade it an A++. Thanks for another great product Eikon!!

What can I say? Yes, the new Eikon power supply is great! For those of us who like to travel a lot, it's much smaller than the previous model which not only saves room on your counter top at home but is also great for packing. It's now able to be used in rotary mode without any extra steps. All the cords, including your footswitch and clipcord, plug into the back of the power supply making it very easy to clean the surface on the face and sides. It has all of the features we have become used to having, plus more, in a smaller package, with a f*@%kin? touch screen! Buy it!

Over the years, I have used between 10-15 different power supplies. You know, the ones you have to rotate a dial to change your machine speeds. Well the beauty of the EMS400 power supply is that my voltage settings are all saved from the last time I used it because of the presets. I saved the voltage settings for my favourite machines once, and now the EMS400 is ready to go for my next tattoo session with just one click of a preset button. I am still amazed at its power consistency from start to finish.

The vertical design of the EMS400 allows it to fit perfectly into my custom designed station and the non-slip pad reduces the possibility of slippage. The small size makes the sanitation process more convenient as it is the same size of the barrier film, and is also easy to transport to conventions and guest spots.

If you are looking for a more consistent foundation for your artwork, I highly recommend the Eikon EMS400.
