Laying back in the Maritimes!

Like the tidal bore that runs through town, the 2019 edition of Moncton's own Hub City Tattoo Expo was an event not to be missed. With the warm maritime welcome and many familiar faces, this show always feels like a family reunion of sorts.

If you haven't been to the Hub City tattoo show, you are truly missing out on some of the hidden gems of the Canadian tattooing scene. With an incredible mix of traditional and new-school artists there really was something for everyone, including a rose themed booth from Hell or High Water artist @ghandy39 and @kritz39. The sights, sounds and yes even the smells of the Hub City Tattoo Expo vibes, take you back to that classic era of tattooing. From the buzz of the numerous coil machines, to that sweet smell of Dettol, this is a tattooist’s happy place.

The Sights & Sounds

The Hub City Tattoo Expo kicked off early Friday morning, and as always organizer @bradawe ensured all of our packages arrived safe and sound, and ready for us long before the doors opened that day. Our famous #eikonconventionpacks were carefully placed at each artist booth.  Arriving in style was @bodychalk who’s taken booth set-up transportation to a new level, revving it up on a uni wheel skate thing haha he ended up judging with!!

You could clearly tell when the doors officially opened, not just from the crowds, but also the quite noticeable the nostalgic buzzing sound through the hall.

Thank you to all the artists that swung by the booth to hang out, including a crazy bunch of maritime tattooers we’ve come to know and love over the years: @ghandy39, @andrewtristantattoos, @danehiltztattooer, @mr.scriptkeeper @lukecormiertattoo@bobbyttattoos, @tashaterror from not too far away with @alexduquettetattoos who design this year stunning poster.  Not to mention artists who weren't working the show but came by to check it out, like @jamie_mackay @jasonmccaw and so many more.  Thanks for the great conversation and laughs! Shoutout to @anthony_robicheau who knew exactly what he was looking for (Xion Pen),  and got to break it in that weekend. Thanks again for the prints man.

It wasn't just local artists, Hub City tattoo show also boasts a great collection of road warrior  tattooers like @artease Erika and Ryan with @angustattoos from Montreal, @super_carlito_3. Shout out to @jayleblanctattoo who worked intensively all weekend, even had time to show me his hunting trophies!!!  How can we forget the ever joyful @mikekennytattoos also from the GTA, @bakey_tattoos who showed us what “work hard, play hard” truly means, and @romancetattoos, who flew in from B.C. for a jam-packed work weekend.

Thank you to @hllywd_homicide and family for inviting us to the annual Teppanyaki dinner where the chef put on a show almost as entertaining as the artists themselves. Video evidence of saki battles will be kept for future use.

Shout Outs

A big “Thank You” again to Brad and Melissa Dawe - this show lives and breathes the East Coast vibe that you’ve instilled in it.  We look forward to this show every year and can't wait for 2020 Hubcity Tattoo Expo!

Up Next… Calgary!
